Why optimisation?

How to balance development and operational costs with expected performance and revenue? This is the basic question in optimisation. Investments to increase system performance may or may not turn out to be worth the cost. Safetec can help provide a basis for such difficult decisions. These decisions can come in an early phase, when there are different design alternatives. Or they can come in a later phase when upgrades, expansion or other further investments are considered. There may be bottlenecks in your system, with associated potential for a significant increase in performance at only a small cost. Or there may be over-capacity where cost cutting represents little or no effect on performance.

The benefits of modelling

If the system or relevant part of the system has not yet been developed, it may be difficult to assess these issues before it is built and put into operation. At this point it may be too late to realize that the design was not optimal after all. Redesigning a system which has already been built or running a sub-optimal system is the costly consequence. The cheaper alternative is to create a model of the system in advance, covering all relevant aspects. Simulation runs will then reveal what we can expect from a future system which the model represents. Simulation technology has advanced to a point where very detailed and accurate models can be developed, unknown to many operators in industries which could benefit significantly from these services.
