Hazard analysis and QRA are now well established methods for aiding engineering and management decision-making.
A full risk analysis involves the estimation of frequency and consequences (i.e. risk) for a range of potentially hazardous scenarios. The methods and tools Safetec emply to carry out QRA include:
- Hazard identification (HAZID) and HAZOP
- Frequency evaluations of all major events
- Consequence evaluations
- Fire, smoke and gas simulations utilizing the CFD tool CFX
- Explosion simulations utilizing the CFD tool FLACS
- Impairment evaluations
- Quantification of risk to personnel, environment and asset
- ALARP evaluation
QRA does not necessarily have to be a complex exercise. In some cases a relatively simple QRA suffices. The ability to accurately predict to what level a QRA should be developed, at an early stage of a project, is key for the creation of a cost-effective and useful, decision-making tool during the life of the project.
