Various standards have been introduced by the industry, stating how the requiements to the safety instrumented systems shall be defined as well as how the requirements shall be verified. The requirements are often related to the term SIL (Safety Integrity Level).
The most important standards within this area are:
- IEC 61508: Functional safety of electrical/electronic/programmable electronic safety-related systems
- IEC 61511: Functional safety - Safety instrumented systems for the process industry sector
- OLF no. 070: Application of IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 in the Norwegian Petroleum Industry (click here for a link to the guidelines)
Safetec may offer assistance to all industry parties; vendors, engineering companies as well as operating companies. The different parties will have different needs. Some typical types studies are:
- Identification of safety functions and establishment of SIL requirements
- Preparation of procedures aiming at achieving and maintaining SIL requirements (Safety Requirements Specification, SRS)
- Preparation of Safety Analysis Reports (SAR) for vendors of safety equipment
- Verification of achieved SIL level
- Preparation of reliability data dossier and qualification of reliability data
